Concept Explanation

Circular Arrangement Facing Centre

Seating Arrangement: Arrangement is the positioning of things, persons, etc. in a particular order.Seating arrangement is the manner in which people are arranged to sit around a table, in a row etc.

Circular Arrangement - Facing Centre: In a circular arrangement, persons are arranged around a circular table, according to certain conditions. Here we are discussing the arrangement in which all the people are sitting around a circular table facing towards the centre of the table, or certain objects placed in a circular order with their faces towards the centre. In circular arrangement  Right means Anti - clockwise Direction and Left means Clockwise Direction

Rules for Solving Circular Arrangement Problems:

  • Firstly, mark the number of points which is equal to the number of persons or objects.
  • The points on the circle should be equidistant from each other
  • Fix the position of one person according to the given directions and arrange the positions of the rest.
  • If it is written that a person is sitting to the right or left of a certain person, it does not mean that the person is sitting to the immediate right or to the immediate left.
  • If eight persons are to be arranged who are facing the centre, then make eight marks on the circle which are equidistant from each other.
  • Illustration: P, Q, R, S and T are sitting around a circular table facing the centre. R is to the immediate right of P and is second to the left of S. T is the immediate neighbour of both R and S. Who is sitting around to the left of R?

    A. R                   B. S                  C. T                 D. Q

    Answer: D

Solution : Q is sitting second to the left of R.

  • Draw a circle and mark as many cuts as the number of persons to be arranged . Here, it is 5.
  • FIx the position of one of the persons at any place and arrange the rest of the persons accordingly.
  • Clearly, R is to the right of P and is second to the left of S.
  • Since T is not between P and S, so Q comes between P and S or Q is second to the left of R.
  • Thus, answer is Q.
  • Illustration: Study the following information carefully to answer the given questions :

A, B, C, D, E and F are seated in a circle facing centre. A is second right of D who is third left of F. C is third right of E and is not immediate neighbour of F.

Question: - What is position of B with respect to C ?

    A. Second to the left                 B. Third to the right                   C. Second to the right                D. Third to the left

    Answer : - A   B is second to the left of C.

Solution: In facing centre, left means clockwise direction and right means anticlockwise direction so according is this, the valid diagram is:

  • A is second right of D, we will first mark any position as A then we will mark D to the second left position, we are marking the left of A so the condition that A is right to D is satisfied.
  • Now D is third left of F. we will mark F to the third right  position to D, We are marking in right direction because we are marking with respect to F and in the statement we are given the position of F with respect to D. So it will be immediately right to A
  • C is not immediate neighbour of F. also C is third right of E  so only position where C can marked is between A and D and E will be marked at the immediate right position to F, because only then the condition that C is third right to E will be satisfied.
  • The vacant Position is marked as B
  • From the diagram it is clear that B is second to the left of C. So option A Second to the left is correct.

    Question : 3

Direction : Study the following information and answer the questions given below. Eight people E, F, G, H, J, K, L and M are sitting around a circular table facing the centre. Each of them is of a different profession Chartered Accountant, Columnist, Doctor, Engineer, Financial Analyst, Lawyer, Professor and Scientist but not necessarily in the same order. F is sitting second to the left of K. The Scientist is an immediate neighbour of K. There are only three people between the Scientist and E. Only one person sits between the Engineer and E. The Columnist is to the immediate right of the Engineer. M is second to the right of K. H is the Scientist. G and J are immediate neighbours of each other. Neither G nor J is an Engineer. The Financial Analyst is to the immediate left of F. The Lawyer is second to the right of the Columnist. The Professor is an immediate neighbour of the Engineer. G is second to the right of the Chartered Accountant.
